The reason why this place is known as Tadoba?

This place is full of adventures and exciting stories. One such interesting story is behind the name “Tadoba.” This national reserve is named after Tadoba, popularly known as Taru. Taru used to live in the dense forest of Tadoba and was praised by the tribal people. 

Per the information, Taru was killed in a mythological encounter with a Tiger. A huge shrine is dedicated to the god Tadoba beneath a huge tree near Tadoba Lake. During the Hindu month of Pausha, between December and January, a fair is held, and Adivasis visits this place. 

A ‘project tiger’ was started during the tenure of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1973 by the Government of India. This project aimed to ensure a feasible ‘Bengal Tigers’ in their natural habitat. This initiative was taken to protect the tigers from extinction.
